Dry Chemical Fire Suppression System
Dry Chemical Fire Suppression System
Dry Chemical Fire Suppression Systems are designed with fixed piping and nozzles to discharge sodium or potassium bicarbonate-based powder over the fire area.
The systems are designed in compliance with EN 12416-2, while testing and maintenance are carried out according to EN 12416-1 and -2.
Therefore, all design, installation, testing, and maintenance must be performed by qualified and certified fire protection professionals.
These systems provide rapid extinguishing, wide coverage, and re-ignition prevention, making them ideal for both local and total flooding applications.
Operating Principle
When activated automatically or manually:
-
The pilot cylinder releases compressed gas (nitrogen or CO₂).
-
This pressure propels the dry chemical powder through distribution piping.
-
The powder blankets the fire surface, cutting off oxygen and interrupting the chemical reaction responsible for combustion.
This dual effect — cooling and chain reaction inhibition — ensures fast and permanent extinguishing performance.
Applications
Dry chemical systems are suitable for environments with flammable liquids, gases, or electrical hazards, including:
-
Transformer stations
-
Oil reservoirs
-
Boiler rooms
-
Fuel loading/unloading areas
-
Compressor rooms
-
Industrial machinery spaces
-
Generator rooms
-
Paint and solvent storage areas
They perform effectively in both open and enclosed areas, provided that vent and clearance calculations meet standard requirements.
Advantages
-
Immediate response within seconds
-
High extinguishing efficiency across large areas
-
Prevents re-ignition through chemical inhibition
-
Safe for human exposure
-
Automatic or manual activation options
-
Low maintenance and recharge costs
System Components
-
Dry chemical storage cylinders
-
Pressurizing gas cylinder (Nitrogen or CO₂)
-
Stainless steel piping and nozzles
-
Manual/automatic actuation valves
-
Control and alarm panel
All outdoor or semi-open installations must include ventilation and dispersion calculations according to EN standards.
